Turning pain into purpose, Edgewater resident and owner of “Dance with Me” dance studios, Sasha Chmerkovskiy, along with his sons – Maksim & Valentin Chmerkovskiy – have launched a massive donation effort to make a difference and help people on the ground in Ukraine.
History & Purpose.
The Chmerkovskiy family emigrated to the United States from Odessa, Ukraine in the mid-nineties so Ukraine is near and dear to their hearts. “I can’t go and defend the country, but in my heart, I felt this is the only way for me to be helpful.” — Sasha Chmerkovskiy has said.
Baranova 27, the street address of the Chmerkovskiy family in Ukraine, is a 100% volunteer based initiative, that started it’s humanitarian effort by collecting & sending aid into Ukraine. In total, Baranova27 has sent over 500,000 lbs of essential goods to Ukraine. Donations came in through generous donors which purchased through the Amazon registry, or dropped off donations in our pop-up locations, as well as local businesses and corporate donations.
In the first three weeks, Baranova 27 collected over 100 tons of essential goods for Ukraine. Over 70,000 of these items were purchased from the Amazon registry, which is regularly monitored and updated based on priority and need. Additional donations have been received through generous individuals, local businesses, neighboring towns and states.
